Moneymaker : How an Amateur Poker Player Turned $40 into $2.5 Million at the World Series of Poker
by Chris Moneymaker

Date Completed: February 6th, 2006

My sister and brother-in-law got me this one for Christmas off of my Amazon.com wishlist. I put a whole bunch of gambling and poker related "story" books as I have been interested lately in reading about various gamblers and history. Moneymaker is honest about his background with compulsive gambling, drinking, massive debts, and marital problems. We all know the basic story of how he turned a $40 satelitte into $2.5 million, but I found it interesting to learn some of the details told from his perspective. Like him or not, he changed the tournament poker world significantly. I recommend it to fellow poker players interesting in getting some of the stories behind the players.

Other poker and gambling books:

  • Poker Face: A Girlhood Among Gamblers by Katy Lederer
  • Annie Duke : How I Raised, Folded, Bluffed, Flirted, Cursed, and Won Millions at the World Series of Poker by Annie Duke
  • Busting Vegas : The MIT Whiz Kid Who Brought the Casinos to Their Knees by Ben Mezrich
  • The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King: Inside the Richest Poker Game of All Time by Michael Craig
