Friday, October 19, 2012
We had been waiting for a return to Disney World since our one magical day at Magic Kingdom in 2010. We spent a little over a week at Disney!
We all had a great time spending time on the beach and in the pool. The kids enjoyed building sandcastles and collecting shells. This was our first trip with just the four of us (without family or friends).
After a delay due to kiddo illness, we headed to Edisto Island on Sunday and spent several days there. We played on the beach and went to the Serpentarium. We all had a great time!
We are planning to visit with family and friends in Atlanta.
We are planning to visit Nana and Papa and take the kids to Discovery Place in Charlotte.
Audrey had a business trip to Orlando, so Kerry and Audrey decided to have a Disney adventure prior to the conference. We had a great time experiencing many things that little kids are too young to enjoy (and acting like kids ourselves).
Our first trip of the year was supposed to be to visit family in Atlanta, but we had to turn around after hitting the outlet mall just beyond the giant peach. Both Cullen and Gabe were sick (and Kerry was sick a few days later). We missed seeing everyone, but we were glad that we didn't expose them to our germs.

Allure of the Seas
We were really excited to cruise on a megaship, The Allure of the Seas. We were joined by family and friends. This was Cullen's first cruise and Maddie's third cruise.
We went to Davidson for a few days to spend time with Kerry's parents, Kristin and Chad for Thanksgiving. We also went to the Discovery Place Kids museum.

Davidson, NC and Atlanta, GA
We'll stop at my parents' house on the way down to Atlanta to visit family.
We spent another weekend at Leslie Lodge.
Gabe's mom rode back to Lexington with us after a visit at the Children's Museum. In Kentucky, we spent time with family, went to a park, had tasty food, and played some games. We visited the shop and sampled bubble tea for the first time. Yum!
We left Fancy Gap on Monday and spent several days in Cincinnati. We went to the Children's Museum twice, took a quick walk through the Natural History Museum (free due to our local museum membership), and went to the aquarium. We visited with Gabe's dad, sister, and niece. Gabe went to a baseball game with his parents. We had a great time!
We spent the long weekend in Fancy Gap again this year. After a foggy start, we had a wonderful time watching the kids play, playing games, and going to parks. We had a perfect picnic lunch at the New River on Sunday. We headed to Cincinnati after lunch on Monday for the next segment of our trip.
My parents and Gabe's mom will be joining us in Atlanta where we will celebrate Maddie's 3rd birthday. We plan to have a lunch at the American Girl Store and visit with other family while in town.
We are planning to stay a few days in Fancy Gap on the way back from Kentucky. We might get our Christmas tree in the mountains this year!
Cullen will be taking his first trip to Kentucky (along with the rest of us) to visit with Gabe's family in the area.
We stopped by Davidson to spend some time with my parents "on the way" to Kentucky. It adds a little bit of time to stop there, but it allows us to drive the rest of the way to Kentucky in one day. We had a nice time visiting with Nana and Papa.
Atlanta in November

Sunday, November 7, 2010
Davidson, NC and Atlanta, GA
We are planning to spend a quick weekend in Atlanta visiting family. My dad is planning to make the trip with us.
We had planned a trip to DC, but we decided to visit the mountains for the pretty colors and beautiful weather. We attended a wine festival, visited the alpacas again, and went to the neighborhood park.
We are enjoying all of our weekend trips to Fancy Gap this year! We had another great weekend with a side trip to Mabry Mill.
Gabe's mom came to visit for a weekend, and we headed to the beach. We had a good time, but the kids didn't love the beach. We had a good time at the pool and aquarium, too.
We went to the mountains again with friends. We had 5 adults and 5 kids. It was a crazy, fun time.
We left after work on Friday to spend the 3-day weekend in Fancy Gap! We had a great time going to parks, hiking, relaxing on the porch, doing art projects, and visiting.
We drove down to Orlando (with a quick visit in Atlanta "on the way") to visit with Gabe's parents. We decided at the last minute to go to the Magic Kingdom. Fun!
We made a trip to Atlanta during my matenrity leave so that family could meet Cullen. We combined this with a trip down to Florida to vacation with Gabe's family.
We spent several days at Thanksgiving with Gabe's family. While we were there, we also had a birthday party for Dylan.
Originally, we had planned to go to DC or the mountains. Our plans to travel to DC didn't work out as we had hoped, but we were excited to be one of the first visitors to our friends' brand new mountain home. We visited with them on the way to the mountains (with a day on the way back as well). It's very conveniently on our route to Kentucky.
We went on this cruise with my parents, sister, and brother-in-law. Gabe and I had never been to Maine or the two Canadian provinces. This was also Maddie's first visit to Massachusetts, Maine, and Canada. We had a wonderful time on this vacation with extended family!
We went down to Atlanta to visit with my grandparents and other relatives. My parents were in town at the same time.
We visited with my parents in Davidson and attended Ben and Kristina's wedding in Asheville. Maddie had a great afternoon and evening with her grandparents while we went to the wedding. The wedding was beautiful at the Biltmore Estate. See the blog post for more details.
We had originally planned to spend the weekend in Athens, but my cousin ended up with whooping cough so we stayed away. We still went to visit my parents for a couple days and attended the Davidson festivities. We had a nice weekend and were able to play some Tichu!

Norfolk, VA and Bermuda
Gabe and I had been talking about taking a trip with just the 3 of us for a while. We finally felt ready to try it. We decided to take a 5-day cruise to Bermuda! We had a great time (though cruising with a 1-year-old has its challenges!).
We went to Kentucky to see the races on opening day at Keeneland. Maddie seemed to enjoy her first horse races. Melissa and Jason came to visit with us. See the blog post for more details.
We went to Atlanta to visit family and to see my cousin John Thomas perform as part of the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra. We also celebrated Grandma and Grandpa's birthdays. See the blog post for more details.
We went to Atlanta to celebrate an early Christmas with my grandparents and other extended family.
We took Maddie to Kentucky for the first time to visit with Gabe's family and celebrate Thanksgiving.
We traveled to Davidson to visit with my parents for the weekend. It had been a while since we had visited Davidson without using my parents' house as a stop to somewhere else. We also celebrated my dad's birthday a tad early.
See the blog post for the full trip report.
We visited with my grandparents and other family during Labor Day weekend. My parents traveled to Atlanta at the same time.
We met with Gabe's parents, grandma, and nephew in Gatlinburg to spend a long weekend with family. Grandpa Mick and Great Grandma Scottie met Maddie for the first time.
My oldest friend, Amie, offered with her mom to throw us a baby shower shortly after she found out that I was pregnant. We decided to make a trip out of it and visit with my parents and Atlanta family for a few days prior to the shower.

Thursday, December 27, 2007
We had hoped to go to both Kentucky and Georgia for Christmas, but we decided it would be a bit too much at this time. We spent Christmas in Kentucky with Gabe's family this year.
Gabe and I decided we wanted to get in one more poker trip before having the baby, so we decided to go to Atlantic City for the weekend. Due to the flight itineraries and prices and the hotel prices, we decided to leave on Saturday morning and return Sunday night. We invited others in the poker group to join us, and Brad decided to join us from the Raleigh area. Clint met us in Atlantic City since he lives in New Jersey now.

Lexington, KY and Cincinnati, OH
Gabe received his birthday present a bit early this year. For various reasons, I didn't want to put together the plans for this trip by myself. Since it was almost a month before Gabe's birthday, I had to come up with a good way to tell him what I wanted to give him for his birthday. During the first half of the Bengals season opener, I created a treasure hunt with clues leading to different places around the house. Each clue had a hint about his birthday present until the hints were obvious enough for him to figure out his present. He searched for the clues during halftime. I had already talked to Gabe's mom about the idea, and the three of us are going to the game on Sunday, October 21st at Paul Brown Stadium. Gabe and his mom are both very excited!

Seattle and Alaska
Gabe and I both wanted to try cruising and to go to Alaska. The trip was awesome!
Gabe and I drove down to Athens, Georgia to visit with relatives. Since I was sick right before Christmas, Gabe had missed out on meeting most of the Kraul side of the family. We had been planning to find a good time to visit the Kozlosky's since then.
We decided a few days beforehand to take a short trip down to Atlanta to visit my family. We drove to Davidson on Friday night and arrived in time for a late dinner and some competitive Scrabble matches. We completed the drive to Atlanta on Saturday morning and drove back to Raleigh on Sunday night. We had a nice time visiting with my grandparents.
Our friends Donovan and Cynthia were married this weekend at The 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa. Gabe and I drove to Lake Lure on Saturday to attend their wedding and reception.
We planned this trip in December, and we had no idea that we would be closing on our new house just a few short days before the trip! It was nice to get away for a few days from all the stress with moving and settling into the new place! We met up with my parents and Gabe's Mom. We spent some time with family, played some poker, and saw The Beatles Cirque du Soleil show, Love.
Gabe likes to go to the races at least once a year, so we planned once again to visit his family during opening weekend at Keeneland.
Gabe and I drove from Atlanta to Kentucky for our next Christmas adventures. We were surprised that it took us less than 6 hours to drive...not too shabby! We exchanged presents with his parents, Jess, Sterling, and April shortly after our arrival. We spent time with everyone again on Thursday along with Heidi and Dylan (more presents!). Friday, we all went to several different sports bars to have lunch, watch UK football, and play trivia and PhotoHunt.
We went down to Atlanta to visit my family for Christmas. Our plans changed a little bit at the last minute since I had been sick for several days. We didn't want to risk getting anyone sick, of course! We ended up driving down on Christmas Eve and spent several days with my family before driving to Kentucky to visit with Gabe's family.
Gabe and I decided to get tickets to the Barenaked Ladies concert at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte. Since we weren't able to visit my parents just before Thanksgiving, we thought we would visit with them this weekend as well.
After our honeymoon in NYC, we flew directly to Lexington to spend time with Gabe's family for Thanksgiving. It was nice to fly directly into Lexington! We had a nice time with his family, and everyone loved playing the Wii!
When we discovered the Library Hotel, we really thought that it looked like a neat place! We felt that our honeymoon would be the perfect time to splurge and experience the hotel. We did not regret our decision - it was a very special trip. We also were excited about the PhotoTrek Tour, and we were glad that we did as well. We had a full schedule of activities during our stay in NYC.
Gabe and I planned a vacation to Sedona early in the year. We then decided in April to get married on the trip and invite our families. Everything was perfect. Sedona was even more beautiful than I imagined, and the wedding was amazing. We are looking forward to returning to the area in the future!
Roger Waters Roadtrip

Washington, DC and Bristow, VA
I have wanted to see Roger Waters of Pink Floyd fame perform live for a while. When I heard that he was doing a North American tour, I thought that it would be a good opportunity for a roadtrip. I was excited when I heard that he would be performing Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety! I was able to convince Gabe, Erin, and Dave to join me on the roadtrip.
Five of us from the Raleigh area joined up with two from Kentucky for a girls weekend in Asheville. We stayed at The Wright Inn - Heidi and Jessica had rooms in the main house, and the rest of us shared The Carriage House. The Carriage House was our own cute little private house - it worked out very well for our late night fun. We toured the Biltmore House and Winery on Saturday and went to Mount Mitchell on Sunday.
Gabe and I recently started learning how to play bridge, and we had been playing for a week or two when we noticed an upcoming NLM (non-life-master) tournament in Charlotte. We decided to attend our first tournament since Davidson is a short drive from the bridge tournament.
Melissa wanted to do something special for her 30th birthday this year, so she rented a beach house at Edisto for the entire week. Various friends and family joined Jason and Melissa during their vacation. Gabe and I joined them along with 6 others for the weekend after Melissa's birthday.
Gabe and I visited my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins this weekend in Atlanta along with my parents. We also went to the Braves/Reds game on Sunday before heading back to NC.
Gabe and I went to Kentucky for his sister's wedding. Both of us were able to take off Friday from work, so we left on Thursday after our photography class. It was a short, hectic weekend, but we were happy we could be there for Heidi and Tom's wedding!
Gabe and I took a quick trip to Davidson to visit with my parents. We attended their neighborhood picnic on Saturday. On Sunday, we headed a little further west to Lincolnton where we visited with my friend Catherine and her family.
Gabe's parents were passing through Virginia on their way home from Williamsburg. Gabe and I decided to meet up with them in Charlottesville to visit and play some cards. We took the opportunity to tour Monticello on Saturday, and then we stopped by to visit with more of Gabe's family in Richmond on the way home.
During this long weekend, I experienced live horse racing for the first time at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky. Gabe introduced me to members of his family, and we spent a good bit of time visiting with them.
Mom, Dad, Kristin, and I drove down to Atlanta to celebrate Grandpa's 90th birthday, which was on the following Monday. We made a quick trip just for the weekend.
I had not visited my parents at their house in Davidson for a while, so I thought I'd take a weekend to visit with them. They had some new furniture since the last time that I visited, so I wanted to see the new decor!
Vegas in January

Sunday, January 29, 2006
Las Vegas, NV
The poker group hadn't been to Vegas in a while, so we planned to go in late January to play poker. We ended up staying at the MGM Grand at the last minute as we found a good deal on the hotel rooms.
I went to Atlanta for nearly a full week to visit with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and parents for Christmas.
The last Atlantic City junket went well, and several members of the poker group didn't want to wait until next year to go on another one (me included!). We went on our third Tropicana Atlantic City junket (the 5th poker group trip to Atlantic City).
The poker group took their second Tropicana junket to Atlantic City to play as much poker as possible in a 48 hour period. We've decided that the junkets are a great deal and are quite convenient! I'm sure we will be going on more of these.
I drove to Davidson on Friday night, and then Dad and I continued to Atlanta on Saturday morning. We spent time with family on this quick trip, and headed back to North Carolina on Sunday afternoon.
Friday, August 5, 2005 -
Sunday, August 7, 2005
The poker group had been talking about taking a trip to Foxwoods to play poker (and possibly play in some WPT satellites). As a bonus, this was my first visit to Connecticut (and Rhode Island, since we flew into Providence)!
Greg and I flew to Philadelphia to visit with Andrew and Brooke. We drove to The Wildwoods after landing in the Philly airport on Friday. We checked into our motel (which mislead us on their website), walked around the boardwalk, and went to bed. Saturday, we decided to check out of the motel, spend a little time on the boardwalk, and head back to Pennsylvania to hang out at Andrew's apartment for the rest of the weekend.
Shannon and Sam were married on Sanibel Island on Saturday, July 16. My family took a vacation there when I was younger, and I was excited to return to the area. The weekend was full with wedding related activities, but we had some time to relax.
The poker group has been talking about going to Vegas during WSOP for a while. We decided that July 4th would be a good time to visit, though most of us were a few days short of being there for the main event.
Greg and I headed to Virginia to visit his parents and watch his mom perform in the Spotsylvanians Community Chorus.
The Tropicana Hotel sponsors junkets to Atlantic City which are package deals with airfare, transfers, and lodging. The poker group decided to give the junket a try.
Vegas in April

Las Vegas, NV
This is the first time that I managed to go out to Vegas at the same time as my parents. It was fun hanging out with them and playing poker together!
I flew to Atlanta for the weekend where Dad was also going to be visiting for a few days. We celebrated Grandpa's birthday, visited with family, and took a trip to the house in Jasper.
Brad, Brian, and I booked our tickets less than two weeks before flying to Vegas for several days of poker, poker, poker...
The poker group attends a major event - the 6th Annual Jack Binion World Poker Open. The final event is part of the World Poker Tour.
After visiting my family in Atlanta, I flew to the DC area to visit with Greg's family in Virginia. We had a relaxing several days before heading back to Raleigh for the New Years party.
I flew to Atlanta to visit with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. My parents were there as well!
I attended my 10 year reunion for the West Rowan High School Class of 1994. I had been looking forward to the reunion, but I was a little disappointed. I didn't get a chance to talk to everyone that I wanted to see, plus several people that I had hoped to see weren't there.
After going to Atlantic City in August and Vegas in September, we wanted to play more casino poker!! Members of the poker group headed to Atlantic City again in October.
Since TMBG was performing in Atlanta on a Saturday night, I thought it was a good time attend the concert and visit relatives. As a bonus, Homestar Runner made a special appearance at the concert.
The RFC at my work organizes a yearly rafting trip. I went on the trip in 2003 to the Gualey River where we rafted the Lower Gualey. This year the trip was more intense and we rafted the Upper Gualey!
This is my first trip to Vegas as a poker player! Now we see Vegas in a whole different light as we spend the majority of our time at the poker tables.
Six of us from the poker group flew to Philadelphia, rented a car, and drove to Atlantic City for a weekend packed full of poker!
It has been a while since the Kraul family (descendants of Ben and Anna Kraul) has gathered for a reunion. We had the reunion in Chicago, where Mom lived until she was about 12. Festivities included neighborhood tours, a baseball game, a picnic, a poker game, and a mass celebration.
Dad and I drove to Atlanta for the July 4th weekend. We had a nice weekend visiting family and watching fireworks.
Three friends embark on a memorable roadtrip adventure including two concerts, one Texas Hold'em tournament, a comedy show, sightseeing, and lots of food. The trip involved over 1100 miles of driving, 3 hours of train rides, subway rides, taxi rides, and tons of walking.
Greg and I went to Indiana to see Andrew and Brooke's graduation and to see Andrew in his last performance with the Purdue Glee Club. We also did some sightseeing in Indianapolis.
