Shannon and Sam's Wedding in Florida photos

Purpose: To attend Shannon and Sam's wedding

More details:
Shannon and Sam were married on Sanibel Island on Saturday, July 16. My family took a vacation there when I was younger, and I was excited to return to the area. The weekend was full with wedding related activities, but we had some time to relax.

We arrived late on Thursday evening, picked up the rental car, and drove from Fort Myers to Sanibel Island. We checked into the West Wind Inn where we had a nice breakfast the following morning.

Greg and I had some time to relax between breakfast and the dolphin cruise with Shannon and Sam and their family and friends. The dolphin cruise departed from Captiva Island and was wonderful! We saw lots of playful dolphins, and I got some great pictures. I was sad to hear that the resort that my family visited as a kid had been mostly destroyed in one of the hurricanes last year.

After the dolphin cruise, we went over to Shannon and Sam's condo for dinner and spent some time with their friends and family. We had a very nice walk on the beach at sunset with Shannon and Sam and their friends from San Francisco, Will and Abby. We spent a lot of time with Will and Abby throughout the weekend. They didn't have a car on the island, so we gave them a ride to the various destinations. We hopefully will be able to have lunch with them when we visit San Francisco in November.

We helped Shannon with some of the last minute wedding preparations on Friday night and during the day on Saturday. The wedding was schedule for 6pm on Saturday, and it was supposed to be on the beach at the Casa Ybel resort. It turned out that we had to have the wedding indoors, but they were able to get some beautiful pictures after the ceremony and at sunset on the beach and picturesque parts of the resort grounds. Everyone thought that the wedding turned out perfectly despite the change in plans.

The reception was a lot of fun with good food, dancing, and good company. We had a great time, but we were really exhausted by the end of the day!

On Sunday, Greg and I had some time before we had to catch our flight back to Raleigh. We had breakfast with Richard, Susan, and Shannon's uncle at the West Wind's cafe. Greg and I then went to the J.N. Ding Darling wildlife preserve, which I was excited to revisit since I loved it as a kid. We enjoyed the drive, but we didn't see too much in the way of wildlife. Greg claims that he saw an alligator, but it was gone before I could catch a glimpse or get a photo. We did see some birds, crabs, fish, and a lizard.

Throughout the weekend, I took almost 400 pictures! Several times during the weekend, I found myself wishing I had brought my laptop so that I would not be limited in the number of pictures that I was taking. It turns out that I had just about the right number of space on my memory card.
